A little place on Claremont Crescent that's a proper cafe through the week, then turns the lights down Friday to Sunday and cooks until eleven.
Two places, one room
One of them shuts at four. The other one doesn't.
The cafe
Tuesday to Thursday, 9 till 4
Coffee worth crossing the road for, sourdough, breakfast bagels and a vegetarian breakfast people describe as huge. Come in for twenty minutes with the paper, like everybody else does.
The kitchen
Friday to Sunday, till 11pm
Thai nights, steak nights, sausage and mash with onion gravy, and a chef who will happily talk you through the lot if what you came for isn't on tonight.

“Wee gem of place.”
Had 20 minutes or so to fill after a nearby appointment, so came in for a coffee & a read of the paper. Absolutely top quality flat white - much the best I've had for quite some time, easily as good as (better than?) the likes of Mr Woods and Cullercoats Coffee Company. And a friendly & pleasant ambience. If you're in or near Whitley Lodge, it's well worth a detour.

Great service very friendly staff. Been twice now and every time the food is great .especially the breakfast bagel. Partner vegetarian breakfast was huge and very tasty. Wee gem of place

Had an amazing steak night at Earl & Eve! The atmosphere was cosy yet modern, and the service was top-notch. The steak was cooked to perfection, tender, juicy, and full of flavour. Sides and wine pairings were spot on too. Highly recommend for a relaxed, high-quality dining experience.

Lovely little place serving a great selection of foods and drinks. Really enjoyed the sausage and mash with onion gravy it had so much flavour. Very charming staff and atmosphere. Will definitely be returning and recommending.

It was a pleasure to have dinner at this restaurant. I came for the sourdough bread but it was Thai night, which I was not in a mood for, but the chef gave me a lot of different dishes to choose from. It turned out to be delicious and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. What a lovely place!
